The Partners

Our four founding partners supported by the University of the West of England are the key health bodies tasked with taking forward research and evidence- based innovation in the West of England.  They have all made a strategic commitment to work together to involve the public at all levels of the work they do.

We have recently been joined by the Health Protection Research Unit.


Bristol Health Partners is a strategic partnership of the Bristol city region’s NHS organisations, universities and local authority, aiming to improve health and care through collaboration in research, innovation and education.


The NIHR Clinical Research Network: West of England provides the infrastructure to ensure timely and efficient delivery of high quality research in the NHS.



The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC West) is a partnership of health and social care organisations, universities and other relevant bodies to improve patient and population outcomes through the conduct and application of applied health research.


The West of England Academic Health Science Network (WEAHSN) brings together the NHS and universities to work with industry to identify, adopt and spread innovation and good practice.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funds the work of the Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Evaluation of Interventions. The HPRU is a team of researchers who work with Public Health England (PHE) to carry out research into the development and evaluation of health interventions – activities aimed at reducing risks or threats to health. We focus on the areas that PHE has prioritised and these are mainly in the area of infection and infectious diseases. We aim to carry out research that helps to support the development of clinical and public health guidelines and the policy and practice of medical care.
